You mean it did not have extra dimensions, already? We all remember the heady spectacles of the court, the glorious swirls of silk and scent, the martial masses and endless bureaucracies surrounding a fragile boy who struggles to become emperor and then to survive the end of empire: craftsmanship on an epic scale in the days before computer simulation. Now, this complex masterwork has been lovingly restored and the pomp and pageantry – as well as the intricate human stories woven through it – leaps from the screen for new generations to experience it and talk about the questions it raises.
